REACHING OUT

As I reach out to you, why do you turn away?

As I try to speak to you, why do you have nothing to say?

Am I not your friend, do you not want me in your life?

Why does your cold, blank stare cut me like a knife?

You do not reach back; you fold your arms and turn.

You do not seem to care for me, my attention you do spurn.

I only offer what I can; all I can do is try.

But as you refuse me constantly, all I want to do is cry.

Cry out against this injustice, for I have done nothing wrong.

I reach out to you, to others…but I can’t keep doing if for long.

If you cannot return to me what I try to give to you

I must relinquish this quest of mine and bid a sorrowful “Adieu”
