Down and out?

Have you ever felt so sad

That you couldn’t even cry?

Have you felt that you didn’t want to live…

But were too afraid to die?

Have you ever had your ship come in

But then they closed the docks?

Have you suddenly found the key to happiness,

Just to have them change all the locks?

Sometimes I feel I have lost my voice

But I still want to scream and shout.

As this burden of life that I carry

Often makes me feel so down and out.
